Cabbage Patch Stew


  • 2 lbs ground beef

  • 1 head of green cabbage (chopped in medium pieces)

  • 3 cans diced tomatoes (for spicy use Rotel)

  • 2-3 stalks celery (chopped)

  • 2 bell peppers

  • 1 lg onion (chopped)

  • 3-4 tablespoons oil

  • 1 can pinto beans

  • 1/2 cup Bill's Season All

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 4 to 5 cans of water


In large stock pot, generously season hamburger meat with Bill's Season All (bout 1/4 cup) and brown. In a large frying pan, saute celery, bell pepper, and onion in oil. Add chili powder. When onions are clear add to hamburger meat. Add tomatoes, beans, cabbage. Add enough water to cook cabbage, about 3 cups. Add remaining Bill's Season All to taste. Cook in a rolling boil and then cover and simmer for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours until cabbage is tender, stir occasionally. Serve with hot cornbread.
